Dr. Dilip Kumar Pal graduated with the MBBS degree from North Bengal Medical College in 1988. He passed his MS (General Surgery) from Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa (MP), in 1992, and M.Ch (Urology) from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Benaras Hindu University, in 1999. He has been in Government service since 1993 and served in rural medical colleges such as North Bengal Medical College and Bankura Sammilani Medical College for more than 14 years in the capacity of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in Urology.
Since January 2014, Dr. Pal has been based at the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGME&R) in Kolkata as Professor and Head of the Department of Urology. He has guided more than 45 postdoctoral students and postgraduate students for thesis work till date. Dr. Pal has presented over 119 papers in various Zonal and National Conferences and has published about 350 papers in various national and international peer-reviewed journals. His main interest in research is in basic sciences in Uro-Oncology and on qualitative research.
Dr. Dilip Kumar Pal has been an assessor for the Medical Council of India on several occasions and has performed the duty of External Examiner for the M.Ch. Urology examination at Manipur University, Utkal University, IGIMS Patna and KEL University (Karnataka), SS University of Health Sciences (Guwahati) and University of Health Sciences (Kolkata).
Dr. Pal has conducted three workshops at IPGME&R on RIRS and Laser Surgery in Prostate for the postgraduate students of the East Zone. He delivered the Urology Trust of Orissa Oration at the USIEZ Conference inBhubaneswar – his talk was titled "Arsenic-induced Bladder Carcinoma: Prognosis and Progression in West Bengal". He also delivered the RVP Sinha Memorial Oration in Shilong on the topic "High resolution genomic analysis of arsenic induced urinary bladder cancer - an approach to identify susceptible molecular pathways".
He was a Council Member of the Urological Society of India (East Zone) for 2009-11, and President of this body in2018. He was also the council member of Urological Society of India from 2015-17. Dr. Pal has been elected as Executive Committee Member of West Bengal Medical Council since 2022. He has also joined as Dean, Faculty of Modern Medicine of West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata in 2022 in addition to his usual duties.
